Share of the United States in the global gas production in 2023.

After its 2021 rebound, global gas production remained stable in 2022 and 2023.

Global gas production slightly increased in 2023 (+0.7%), after a stagnation in 2022 (-0.1%).
Indeed, the steady growth in gas production in the US (+4.7%, almost as fast as its 2010-2019 average) was offset by a 5.5% drop in Russia due to lower exports to the European Union.
Gas production slowed down in the Middle East (+2.7%, below its historical average), due to a sharp slowdown in Iran (+1.3% in 2023 compared to over 5%/year usually) and a stable production in Saudi Arabia. Gas production increased by 3.5% in Asia, rising by around 6% in China and India, and by 2.1% in Indonesia, while dipping by 1.5% in Malaysia. It remained stable in Africa (8.3% rise in Algeria offset by a 11% fall in Egypt), in Latin America despite an 8.6% hike in Brazil, and in Australia (+0.8% only). Gas production fell by 9.3% in Europe, collapsing in the Netherlands (-34%) with the shutdown of the Groningen field and declining by 5.6% in Norway (due to field maintenance programmes and a record year 2022).
