Total energy production

Global energy production accelerated in 2025 (+1.8%), especially in China, North America, and the Middle East.

In 2025, global energy production slightly accelerated, rising by 1.8% after a 1.5% hike in 2024, closer to its 2010-2019 average (+1.7%/year). Energy production grew particularly in China, in North America (United States and Canada), and in the Middle East (3%).

Key 2025 data for energy production are as follows:

• Crude oil: +2.6%, with OPEC+ reversing its production cuts (+6% in Saudi Arabia and +7% in the UAE) and a rising production in the USA (+3%), Brazil (+10%) and Canada (+4%).
• Gas: 1.3% slowdown, as rising output in the USA (+4%), China (+6%) and the Middle East (+3%) is counterbalanced by the 3% drop in Russia’s gas production.
• Coal: stable (+0.3%), as the rising production in China (+1%) and the USA (+4%) was offset by decreasing output in Europe (-6%), India, Indonesia (-1% each), and Australia (-3%).
• Electricity: +2.7%, with growth pulled by China (+5%), the US (+3%) and Europe (+2%).
