The share of wind and solar is rising constantly (+1.5 point in 2022), reaching 12.2% of the global power mix.
As in 2021, wind and solar installations remained dynamic in 2022 (+75 GW of new wind capacity and +191 GW of new solar capacity), driven by China (+37 GW of wind and +86 GW of solar), the USA and the EU, contributing to a surge in global renewable power generation. Globally, the share of wind and solar in power generation rose by 1.5 pt. in 2022 to over 12% (+10 pts. since 2010). It increased by 2 pts. in China to 13.5% and by 1.7 pt. in the USA to over 14%. In Europe, it grew by more than 3 pts. to nearly 22%, with strong increases in the Netherlands (+7.6 pts.) and Germany (+4.3 pts.) to over 32% each, in Portugal, the UK, Poland and Sweden (around +4 pts. each). Outside these three main markets, the share of wind and solar in the power mix continued to increase in Australia (+3.6 pts. to over 23%), in Latin America (+1.7 pt. to 13%, including +5.4 pts. to over 26% in Chile and +2.9 pts. to 16% in Brazil), and in Asia (+1.5 pt. to 12%, with wind and solar exceeding 10% of the power mix in Japan and India). Wind and solar remain marginal in Africa (5%, including 6% in South Africa), in the CIS (1%, including less than 1% in Russia and 6% in Ukraine), and in the Middle East (less than 2%, despite a rising renewable generation in the United Arab Emirates).
