After the 3.1% rebound in 2021, global energy production continued to increase at a steady pace in 2022 (+3.7%).
Global energy production accelerated in 2022 (+3.7%), much above its 2010-2019 average (+1.6%/year). The growth was driven by China (+5.6%), the United States (+5.8%), Saudi Arabia (+15%), India (+7.9%), Indonesia (+9.4%) and Brazil (+7.8%) and partly offset by a drop in Russia (-4.4%), the European Union (-6.2%) and Africa (-0.9% due to Nigeria and South Africa). Key 2022 data for energy productionare as follows: -Crude oil: +5.4%, driven by Saudi Arabia (+16%) and the United States (+6.5%) - Gas: stable globally, due to a lower gas demand and a 12% fall in Russia’s production that was offset by higher output in North America (+4.8%), the Middle East (+3.2%), China (+6%) and Australia (+7.3%). - Coal: +8.2%, with growth in China (+10%), India (+14%), Indonesia (+12%), Europe (nearly +5%), the United States (+3%), slow increases in Australia and Russia, and decline in South Africa. - Electricity: +2.3%, with growth pulled by China (+3.7%), India (+9.7%) and the United States (+3.2%), despite a 3.6% drop in the EU.
