WORLD ENERGY TRADE STATISTICS IN 2010

The Middle East consolidated its position as the world’s largest net exporter of energy.

Russia exports larger volumes of natural gas to Europe and, thus, has increased its net exporter position.

In North America, a reduction in the net importing position was achieved after US exports of coal increased sharply.

In Asia, the net importing position deepened by a further 15%, driven by Chinese net imports which rose 24% in 2010 (55% in 2009).

In Europe, the trade deficit increased by 2.9% since imports of energy developed more rapidly than exports.
