CRUDE OIL REFINERY STATISTICS AND OVERVIEW
In 2010, crude oil consumption increased sharply, by 3.1%, due to the economic recovery and development of transport. This is the highest increase since 2004, the last year with prices below US$50/bbl, but the smallest rise among fossil fuels.
In OECD countries, which accounted for 50% of the needs, crude oil demand has grown for the first time since 2004 and was mainly driven by growth in US consumption (+2.7%). Fast-growing demand (two times higher than the average for the last five years) was recorded once again in China (+13%). The significant dynamism in CIS, the Middle East and Africa also boosted world-wide consumption of crude oil, but to a lesser extent.
