Share of renewables in electricity production (incl hydro)

Latin

America is the world region with the highest share of renewables in electricity production (59%)

due to the high diffusion of hydro electricity.

The share of renewables develops rapidly in Europe (+5% in 2009) as renewable energies accounted for more than 60% of new generating capacities installed in EU

. The diffusion of renewables in electricity production is also noticeable in the USA (+12%) and in Japan (+10%). In developing countries, renewables developed at a strong pace in Middle East in 2009 although their share in electricity output remained below 2%. The diffusion still continued in other regions, particularly in Pacific and CIS.
